| Obsolete Wistron LNB with adapter. |
|
| Obsolete Raven LNB with adapter. Other possibilities are Thomson and Sharp LNBs. |

| Hi Martin It's stopped raining ........... and that's not all. I'm pleased to say that the Raven LNB seems to work OK on my Channel Master dish: 1 I rebolted the dish to the wall (in course of being redecorated), and refitted the Cambridge LNB, to check that nothing had changed. It hadn't. On the DSB40, Signal Strength showed around 50%, Quality around 60%, but channels missing as before. 2 Changed LNB for Raven + Adaptor, with moulded spigot on adaptor still in place. Signal Strength came up around 33%, Quality around 55%, but all channels seemed OK. 3 Removed Raven LNB + Adaptor and cut away the moulded spigot, and the 'sloped' sections leading up to the shoulders, to allow the adaptor to be pushed fully home in the boom - about an extra 0.25 inches. Signal Strength showed around 55%, Quality around 60%, and again all channels present. So, success ............ but I'd say the replacement operation is not for the faint hearted, even though it's only a 50p adaptor which needs to be ravaged a bit to make it all fit. I said yesterday that the adaptor profile fitted snugly into the boom arm, but I'd only inserted it a wee bit. When I came to push it further into the boom, a fair amount of brute force was needed, probably due to a welding seam down the inside of the tube. |

| Removing it to cut away the spigot moulding was a pig of a job. And now it's pushed fully home, you won't get it out again without doing something like softening it with a blowlamp! However, the casual punter needn't be bothered by that, since the correct procedure seems to be to remove the moulded spigot at the outset, and simply ram the adaptor up to its shouders in the LNB boom to get the best result. The Raven LNB is a firm, if somewhat gentle, interference fit into the adaptor, and it's not locked into position, but I'd guess there's little chance of it shifting once fitted. Whether the final result is anywhere near optimum I cannot guess, but it's working for me, so I'm happy. The dish dimensions are approx 52.5 x 39 cm. I live in Slough and the dish was fitted by Sky contractors (don't make me laugh!) in December 2002. Hope that's all helpful. Regards JohnT | |
