Controlling equipment in a cupboard
Cabinet - How to get your remote control to work
My advice is NOT to put equipment in a cupboard unless it has adequate ventilation. The best way to achieve this is to leave the back and top open and to remove the door panels and fit "Tygan" open-weave loudspeaker cloth instead. The remote control signals go through that. If you absolutely must stick your equipment in a cupboard, you could use one of the devices in our on-line catalogue. Look at page 3.
Many of our customers using a Sky Digibox favour the DigiLink because the "eye" connects to the UHF adapter section via a small 3.5mm jack plug which will pass through a 9.3mm hole in the cabinet. Or the VisionLink which has a tiny "eye". This can also be used in conjunction with the tvLINK-plus system. To use this combination without a Sky Digibox you will need to order the associated power supply unit. Read independent "magic eye" review.
Alternatively see the tvLINK-plus system or the Triax Link system. If you need a completely wireless solution the PowerMid might do, or the DigiEye.
In addition, make sure that air can flow upwards through your cabinet. (Hot air rises unless you use a fan to blow it sideways. If it can't rise, it simply circulates and gets hotter till your equipment dies). You'll find more information about cabinet fans on our fan page.
Note: Many TV sets - especially plasma - radiate interference which can affect the operation of "magic eye" remote extenders for a radius of up to three metres! Consequently, there's no way we can guarantee that our "magic eyes" will work reliably under all circumstances. You can minimise the risk of problems by using double-screened coaxial cable and fully shielded wall sockets. Wall plates are listed here and here. "I want to use a 'magic eye' to control my Sky Digibox which is in a cupboard. No problem. Connect any SkyLink "magic eye" to RF Outlet 2 on the Sky Digibox, like this: "I want to use a 'magic eye' to control my Sky Digibox which is in a cupboard. I have another remote control upstairs." You'll need to use a T120 or F120 amplified splitter connected to RF Output 2. One of the amplifier outputs goes to your living room "magic eye; the other one goes to your second TV set via another "magic eye". Alternatively, the other amplifier output can be cabled upstairs to a distribution amplifier (e.g. another T120 or a T140) or to a Loft Box to feed several more TV sets. Be sure to use double-screened cable for all connections.
What do I need to order?
	We can provide a choice of SkyLink compatible Amplified Splitters. The example shown here is the SLX2CF (obsolete) which has a threaded "F" connector input and two threaded "F" connector outputs. To connect it to your Digibox you'll need a COLCM TV coupler and a Lead with an "F" plug on one end and a male IEC TV plug on the other. You'll need a double-screened coaxial cable fitted with "F" connectors to feed your second TV set "magic eye" (via a wall plate if fitted*) and a short one to connect your "magic eye" outside the cupboard. If the upstairs cable run is very short (less than 5 metres) then you can use a simple splitter instead of the amplifier.
